Permanent Representatives for Environment and Climate of the EU Member States visited the copper plant of Aurubis in Bulgaria
The Chapter 4 Bulgaria team organized a visit between 90 attachés for environment and climate of the EU member states as part of the program of the informal Environment and Water Council, which took place in Bulgaria between 10th and 12th April. The event was also linked to the Memorandum of Cooperation between Aurubis and the Minister for the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU, which is committed to support the implementation of the activities and priorities set out in EU Presidency's program.
Tim Kurth, Executive Director of Aurubis Bulgaria, presented the results of the long-term investment program “Spectrum 2018, company’s key projects and the new technologies for environment protection implemented at the plant. Angel Kostov, head of Environment Department presented to the EU guests company’s investments and achievements in the environmental protection.
“Over 1.1 billion levs have already been invested in the Pirdop plant, 210 million of which for environmental protection,” Tim Kurth said. “We are proud that Aurubis continues the long tradition of copper production in Bulgaria. This year we celebrate 60 years of starting copper production in Pirdop. Today Aurubis accounts for 9% of the export and 6% of the import of Bulgaria and has a structural role for the country's economy.”, he added.
The attachés visited the new waste depot, the site of rehabilitated one, as well as the only rainwater treatment plant in Bulgaria, part of the Aurubis projects in the country.
